Welcome to Paradise
We finally made landfall on the actual continent today. Twice. Not on an island this time.
Paradise Harbor and Neko Harbor were the two stops of the day, we started out with a hike up a relatively steep glacier in Paradise Harbor. Great views once again and a nice place to watch for iceberg calving. Usually the chunks that fall in aren’t that big and by the time you look in the right direction all you see is a splash and some waves, but we managed to see a few. We chose the faster route down, tobogganing! Another small penguin rookery and then touring in the Zodiac to get up close and personal with ice.
Reality check on the way back to the ship for lunch. One of the Zodiac drivers took a tumble into the water and gave everybody a good scare. He was pulled from the water within minutes and whisked back to the ship which was 50 yards away. VERY LUCKY!
We just had a backyard BBQ on the stern of the ship before a night of sleeping on snow. We are going to be issued sleeping bags, liners and bivy sacks and dropped off for the evening. It looks like about 30 passengers are interested (about 1/3 of the passengers). Should be a fun night.
