Oceanside

13 January 2010

Phil and Meredith were fantastic hosts for our 3 day scramble before we left from LA. Not only did we immediately make a mess of their guest bedroom, we also did laundry and brought various half-used items from our house that we didn’t know what to do with. Hopefully the case of homemade beer, various half bottle of liquor and some wine will make up for some of their inconvenience. Yes our trunk was full.

Sunday:

The four of us plus Jeremy went out for breakfast and headed to San Diego’s Wild Animal Park. We saw lots of African animals, including cheetahs being fed what looked like a whole chicken. It was like we already started our adventure. Please check out the photo gallery for more wild animal pics. Conveniently there was a winery, Orfila, on the way home. We stopped in to have a taste and some snacks. We finished the day with sushi, frozen yogurt. Oh, and a walk down the pier in Oceanside for old time sake. It brought back great memories for Mike:)

Monday and Tuesday:

Phil and Meredith both worked and Mike and I promptly took over the dining room table to sort paperwork and do last minute things, like changing our mailing address, calling credit card companies and of course talking to family one last time. All in all I made 3 trips to the post office and still managed to leave 3 letters for Phil and Meredith to send and Mike went back to the DMV 2 more times. This time was just to get duplicate copies of the registration for the “normal” cars. We also managed to squeeze in one more CA mission visit. Monday we played Foodie Fight (a board game) and the boys beat the girls, but Meredith had to go to bed, so that left just me and I couldn’t pull through:( Tuesday was Phil’s B-day and he chose a French bistro where Tuesday happened to be a special 4 course meal! Don’t worry our last meal in the States was the next morning, a real American breakfast, Mike’s favorite kind.

Wednesday:

Day 1…Meredith was nice enough to take a day off of work and drive us to LAX. Our flight was at 2:50 and yes we were there 2 hours early. Completely out of character. LAX to Houston, which is where we are now. Then Buenos Aires, switch airports and then onto Ushuaia.
