Phil and Meredith were fantastic hosts for our 3 day scramble before we left from LA. Not only did we immediately make a mess of their guest bedroom, we also did laundry and brought various half-used items from our house that we didn’t know what to do with. Hopefully the case of homemade beer, various half bottle of liquor and some wine will make up for some of their inconvenience. Yes our trunk was full.

The four of us plus Jeremy went out for breakfast and headed to San Diego’s Wild …

We left Santa Cruz today and started heading south. Eventually we’ll get all the way to Tierra del Fuego, but for now it’s only going to be eight hours down the road to Oceanside, CA. It’s been a busy couple weeks since we’ve been back from Christmas, here’s what happened over the past week.
New Years Eve
A bunch of friends came up from Monterey to hang out down town for the evening. Nothing too crazy happened, but we did get to see the illegal fireworks at midnight by the clock tower. …

I spent some of time at the corner of 98th and Bancroft Avenues today. More time than I would have liked, there’s a school and a park there, but still not a fun place to hang out. I did get to block traffic for a few hours and the tow truck driver warned me that it was a bad neighborhood, but more on that later.
I rode my motorcycle to Oakland this morning and bought a truck. I’m still not sure if this was a good idea, but I found a …

We are expecting some inconveniences and problems while traveling, but didn’t realized the trouble would start so soon.
After landing at SFO, we get to our car at the airport parking lot and the coolant light comes on as soon as the car starts. A quick look under the hood reveals the fluid level is quite low…that explains the light. It’s 12:30pm so we just start driving anyway, stopping at a few gas stations to look for more antifreeze. No luck since they are either closed or don’t have the …

After a great visit to the heartland, we’re at the airport waiting to go back home to Santa Cruz. The cat has been transferred to his new family, and we found a babysitter for the PT Cruiser. Thanks everyone for helping out with these things.
Next week, Heather goes back to work and Mike will be busy packing up the house and taking care of all the last minute move-out tasks. We also still have to pack, get a few more shots, drink 15 more beers (so we can get …

Since our last post, we made our way to Breckenridge with a short detour to Arches National Park. We had a GREAT surf and turf dinner with Carolyn, Rick and Rick’s brother Ross. We left the next day at noon for our marathon drive to Minnesota. We had terrific weather and didn’t even turn on the wipers until we got to Iowa. We arrived in Rochester at 5 am just in time for breakfast and a quick nap. Ever since then, it was been family, food and fun. It has …

Yesterday was Mike’s last day at work! This morning we got up before sunrise, packed the car and cat. Hit the road at 6:45 and drove for 12 hours. Hobbes had a bumpy start, but eventually settled down. Believe it or not, Google and the GPS told us the fastest way to Breckenridge is south through Vegas and then back north. Why Breck? Mike’s sister lives there and we won’t be seeing her at Christmas. Think of all the snow! Wow, I sound like White Christmas. Thanks for reading my …
