Bienvenidos a Argentina
We made it! On time and everything still in one piece. The only trouble was that we didn’t have the name of the hostel we had reserved. No big deal, but we did put down a deposit. After looking at a small map we took a taxi to an intersection that we thought was close and walked about 6 blocks and found it.
Within 2 hours of our arrival, we were invited to a toga party to celebrate the birthday of one of our roommates. The catch is we had to wait until midnight until it was his birthday. Since we didn’t actually know what time our internal clocks were telling us, we wrapped our sheets around ourselves and got our first taste of Argentinian beer and wine. What a great welcoming party!
We had nothing planned for our first 2 days, just to recover from travel and learn about the city. We made it to breakfast no problem and then walked ourselves around the city. We went to the Museo Yamana (aboriginals). They didn’t wear clothes and they carried fire in their canoe while they fished. Don’t worry about the boats burning, they were leaky! We also went to El Museo del Fin del Mundo which included a lot of history about shipwrecks (very comforting), local history and a section on wildlife. Included in our ticket was entrance to the Old House of Government, no ingles, so that was a quick tour. Then we passed by the supermercado to get dinner and pick out some Beagle Stout and we found Orfila wine from Mendoza. Strange to find that label since we just had it in CA.
We are leaving shortly to be transfered to the ship. We are supposed to be there at 4pm and we sail at 7pm.
