Beginning the Journey South
We left Santa Cruz today and started heading south. Eventually we’ll get all the way to Tierra del Fuego, but for now it’s only going to be eight hours down the road to Oceanside, CA. It’s been a busy couple weeks since we’ve been back from Christmas, here’s what happened over the past week.
New Years Eve
A bunch of friends came up from Monterey to hang out down town for the evening. Nothing too crazy happened, but we did get to see the illegal fireworks at midnight by the clock tower. The next day was a little quieter, more packing and a break to walk on the beach.
The Pub
Another thing on the list to do before we left town is to complete our beer drinking project. A place downtown will put your name on the wall and give you a free t-shirt if you finish every beer on the menu, all 99 of them. We started this past summer sometime, and it’s been a team effort, but we finally finished them all on Thursday.
Packing
Of course our main task this past week was to get our apartment all packed up and cleaned out. We finished that a little later than we would have liked, but still made it to southern California on time so I guess it turned out ok. We got the truck all loaded up yesterday and drove it to it’s undisclosed location. We made it there just as the sun set. There are still some DMV issues to deal with, but we don’t really have to worry about the truck until we get back.
We woke up early today to go to a travel clinic; we saved the yellow fever shot until the last minute. Then it was back home to finish cleaning and packing the car. We finally left town at noon after breakfast at our favorite cafe.
The next few days will be some last minute paperwork and getting organized before we depart from LAX on Wednesday. It feels great to finally be finished with the apartment and truck. Goodbye 2321.
